In honor of fall and all that it brings—beards and sweaters, family and travel—we dedicate this month’s style spotlight to Mr. Ernest Hemingway.
Although Hemingway’s legacy will forever exist in his iconic writing style, there is much to be said about the well-traveled veteran who called Chicago, Key West, Paris and Cuba (among many others) his home. His name, which usually provokes an image of the burly outdoorsman mulling over his journal, also conjures up a feeling of comfort and pragmatism, home and away—an outward simplicity that masks a complex interior.
Style is not always synonymous with fashion, and function is not always attractive. But there is something to be said when there is a certain person, object or aspect of one’s life that allows you to be both discreet and enduring. This November, we salute Mr. Hemingway for his ability to be both in nature and also a key component in literature and also a voice of generations to come. Not to mention, his beard is well-suited for any Movember and all those charitable commitments you might have made.
